          Northern Pacific Railroad buffet-observation car, number 1709 at Tacoma, Washington, circa 1935. This car was renumbered from 1749 in 1922 when a steel underframe was added. It was converted to baggage car 1613 in June, 1943 and retired in June, 1956. Car 1709, a 72-foot, 4-inch heavyweight buffet-observation built by Barney & Smith in 1911. Photo by Herman Hunt, J.M.
