Great Northern Steam Locomotive 2550, a Class S-1, a 2-8-2, built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1929, 28"x30" cylinders, 73" drivers, 250 psi steam pressure, 4720,100 pounds weight, 68,500 pounds tractive effort. This class did not work out as passenger engines so they were used on freight from Spokane, Washington to Whitefish, Montana. Taken at Hillyard, Washington by David Emerson in 1935.

Great Northern Steam Locomotive 2550, a Class S-1, a 2-8-2, built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1929, 28"x30" cylinders, 73" drivers, 250 psi steam pressure, 472,000 pounds weight, 68,500 pounds tractive effort. There were six locomotives in the Class S-1, Numbers 2550-2555, purchased to pull the Oriental Limited and later the Empire Builder but they were not able to climb the Rocky Mountains fast enough, so were used on freight from Spokane, Washington to Troy, Montana during the 1930s.
