The George Simonson Collection includes documents on the Milwaukee Road, Burlington Northern, Nothern Pacific, SP&S, Union Pacific, Pacific Coast Railroad, Great Northern and other railroads. Railroad and model railroad magazines are also included, and books on railroad subjects.
The George Werkema Collection consists of photographic slides of Great Northern Railway Company (U.S.) subjects and photographic slides of Northern Pacific Railroad Company subjects, some taken by Mr. Werkema and some from other sources. Some of these images are cross referenced to successor companies, such as the Burlington Northern Railroad Company, or to other related railroads. Subjects include railroad equipment, railroad stations, railroad bridges and other structures, and railroad tracks taken in locations across the western United States.
The Gerold Dennis Collection consists of a 1956 Northern Pacific Railroad Company letter to the Great Northern Railway Company (U.S.) on the subject of reimbursement for room expenses incurred during a meeting with Canadian railroad companies.
The Great Northern Railway Authority for Expenditure (AFE) Collection consists of approximately 150,000 paper files. The contents document construction and modifications to the railroad and nearby structures, and include business and finance records, engineering drawings, maps, and correspondence. Records range from 1888 to 1984 and include some from predecessor (e.g. St. Paul, Minneapolis and Manitoba Railroad) and successor (Burlington Northern Railroad) companies. The Great Northern Railway- Blueprint-Authorization for Expenditure Collection (GN_Blueprint_AFEs) was created by the Great Northern Railway Historical Society from materials at the Jackson Street Roundhouse. Blueprints and other documents stored with Great Northern Railway Authorization for Expenditure files were gathered and cataloged as a separate collection with reference to the Authorization for Expenditure number where available. In addition to Great Northern Railway blueprints, some supplier blueprints, catalogs, and other supplemental materials for individual projects are included. Blueprints are categorized as Engineering drawings when depicting buildings, track and other structures and as Mechanical drawings when applicable to rolling stock. Other (minor) categories of documents include maps and plats, photographs and printed ephemera.
The Great Northern Railway Historical Society Collection consists of 16mm films and documents: Pacific Coast Railroad annual reports for 1951-1969 and Oregon California and Eastern Railroad annual reports for 1948-1969, Pacific Coast Railroad Interstate Commerce Commission annual reports for 1945-1967, Great Northern Railway - British Columbia annual reports, Great Northern Railway ledgers of California Statistics circa 1966-1969, Great Northern Railway Canadian Activity reports for various years, binders of Great Northern Railway records between 1910 and 1989.
