Great Northern Steam Locomotive 2056, a Class R-2, a 2-8-8-2, built in Hillyard Shops in 1929-1930, 28"x32" cylinders, 63" drivers, 240 psi steam pressure, 630,750 pounds weight, 153,000 pounds tractive effort, these were the highest rated tractive effort of all the steam locomotives with higher pulling power than the touted Big Boys of the Union Pacific, though not as speedy.
