            Northern Pacific train number 1, the westbound North Coast Limited, passes the station at Auburn, Washington, on the last lap of its run into Seattle in 1945. Leading the train is new diesel freight locomotive number 6008, 5400-hp model FT, built by Electro-Motive Division of General Motors in 1944, pressed into service to handle the combined coach and Pullman sections in a detour over the Milwaukee Road between Spokane and Easton--and first diesel ever to haul a North Coast Limited into Seattle.
