Biographical history

Andrew Klamka's interest in airplanes started during his childhood in Chicago while watching airplanes of all types as they arrived or departed from Chicago's O'Hare International Airport. His interest in trains greatly grew when he moved from Chicago to Wichita (Kan.) to begin work at the Boeing Company. He especially became interested in depots and semaphores. Then he discovered that airplane components and major subassemblies were being transported by rail. Research for "Shipping Planes on Trains" was begun in 2004. The first volume covered the years from 1903 to 1918, Volume 2 from 1918 to1945, Volume 3 from 1946 to 2000. Volume 4 covers from 2000 to 2018.
