Northern Pacific mixed train number 591, Centralia-South Bend, led by Class W Mikado-type steam locomotive number 1621, at the station at Pe Ell, Washington, on March 16, 1954. The mixed train pauses on the main track to do station work, and meets an eastbound freight in the siding, with the rear brakeman on the caboose watching the activity.
