The Delbert Jacobson Collection holds primarily engineering drawings. Subjects include Seattle's King Street Station and other Pacific Northwest facilities of both the Northern Pacific Railroad Company and the Great Northern Railway Company (U.S.). Materials cover much of the twentieth century.

The Elmer Smoak Collection consists mainly of operating manuals for railroad locomtoives and their components. Additional materials on railroad operations, principally by the Northern Pacific Railroad Company, are included.

The diagrams show the space available to run railroad cars and loads along the track between stations on the line. Many dates are illegible, but those that are readable fall between 1957 and 1969.
