The collection puts together educational booklets from Railway Educational Bureau, issues of the "Narrow Gauge and Short Line Gazette", station and bridge drawings, Northern Pacific forms and BN "West Chronicles", an NP Engine Facility Plat Map Book, 8 photos of derailment of tank cars with resulting fire, a drawing and request for passenger depot near Dryad, WA, a "Model Railroader" article from the January, 2002 issue on GN M-2 Class 2-6-8-0, a framed photo showing a pile driver, and 2 books: "Ships of the Inland Sea" and Sternwheelers up the Columbia", 12'x26" photo of Puget Sound Flouring Mill workers in front of mill and Stadium Telegraph Office. The Claude Earl Shin Collection is comprised of railroad time and security books from the 1920's and 1930's, and a book of blank checks from the Northern Pacific Bank.
The Claude Earle Shinn Collection includes a box of Claude Shinn's personal materials: 3 diaries from 1938, 1942, and 1943, an insurance certificate, a photograph of Union Pacific Railroad steam engine Number 3975 and Union Pacific Railroad diesel locomotive Number 908, 4 photographs of Claude Shinn, his retirement notice and two articles about him.
The Clive Carter Collection consists primarily of railroad enthusiast and railroad modeler publications with addition material on the Spokane International Railway, Burlington Northern Railroad Company, Great Northern Railway Company (U.S.), Spokane, Portland, and Seattle Railway and other railroads. Materials are dated between 1980 and 2010.
The Cordell Newby Collection includes the Baldwin Locomotives quarterly magazine from January, 1925 and the following Great Northern Railway documents: Analysis of Diesel Ownership and Distribution, 1975; Instructions for the Operation and Maintenance of Electric Motive Power, 1947; an outline drawing for B-D-D-B-720/720-12GE-746-56 1/2 GA, 1947. "New Cascade Tunnel original and reproduction copies, a brochure "The Most Powerful Motor-Generator Type Electric Locomotive in the World", 1929; Form 1404 - Time Return and Delay Report of Engine and Train Employees, May 1947 and June 1956; a drawing - Locomotive Wiring Diagram # 36565 for locomotives 5010-5017, 1953; and Engineer's Train Register at Appleyard, 1955
The John Deely Collection takes in Milwaukee Road photographs and union correspondence. It also includes photos, clippings, correspondence and post cards from the M.J. Costello collection including a hunting trip to Glacier National Park and photographs of a wreck of the Milwaukee Road Olympian passenger train, portions of which were scanned and the originals returned to Mr. Deely.
The Cowlitz County Historical Society Collection joins 3 photographs and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms report on the Columbia & Cowlitz Railway Bridge #7 fire in 2001.
