            Everett & Monte Cristo steam locomotive 99 leads a passenger train across the first crossing of the Stillaguamish River near Granite Falls, Washington, in June 1902. This locomotive number 99, was renumbered Northern Pacific number 649, a class B-2. It poses with an eastbound special on the wooden Howe truss deck span bridge over the Stillaguamish River after exiting from Tunnel 1 on the Hartford Junction to Monte Cristo Line in Washington State. This special carries a group of Union civil war veterans in June 1902. The E&MC was purchased by the Northern Pacific in February 1900 and operated until mid-1915. Photo by Gifford Pinchot, J.M.
