Earl J. Currie worked in the railway industry for 40 years in line management. He was head of the Operating Departments of two Class I US railways. He is author of "James J. Hill's Legacy to Railroad Operations", "Running a Railroad Right", The SP&S Company - An Operating Man's Railway" and "Commitment to Safety".

Doug was born in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1942 and from an early age was interested in everything that ran on rails. In his early adult years, he worked at a Vancouver Island logging operation and was involved with its rail operations. Later he earned a degree in transportation management and also worked as a pilot and as charter bus driver until his retirement in 2012. Doug was a prolific photographer and traveler and he went around the world in the search of trains, especially the remaining railroads operated by steam. In 1991 Doug became the editor and publisher of the locomotive magazine Extra 2200 South and would continue its publication until ending in 2008.
