Donald Holmes was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on August 30, 1922. His family moved to Los Angeles, California when he was five. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served in the South Pacific as a Sonarman. After WWII he attended the University of Southern California and graduated from Sawyers Business School in 1947. He retired from the California State Board of Equalization as a Supervising Tax Auditor with over 30 years of service.

Reese W. Humphreys Sr. was born in Malta, Montana on January 21, 1909, the son of Welsh immigrants, Evan and Margaret (Lloyd) Humphreys. Reese attended elementary school through high school in Malta, graduating in 1927. He attended college at InterMountain Union College (now Rocky Mountain College) and Montana State University in Bozeman, where he graduated with his Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering in 1939. Reese held jobs with the Great Northern Railway, the Montana Highway Department, and the Milwaukee Railway. In 1943, he was hired by Northern Pacific Railway and retired in 1974 as Vice-President of contracts for the Burlington Northern Railway.

Chuck was born in 1917 in Waukon, Iowa. He received his Civil Engineering degree from Iowa State University in 1940 and went on to work at the Great Northern Railroad. Chuck volunteered for the Navy in 1943 and became a Naval Officer, serving with the Seabees in Newfoundland and the South Pacific. In all, Chuck served three years during WWII, coming home in 1946. After the war, Chuck went back to work at the Great Northern Railway and he and his wife Lucille would live in St. Paul, Minnesota, Minot, North Dakota, and eventually Seattle, Washington, where Chuck became Director of Engineering for the Seattle region of the Burlington Northern Railroad.
