Can I publish copy or display the images from the collection?
The images in the collection of the Pacific Northwest Railroad Archive have been donated for the purpose of preservation, display, education and scholarship. Therefore, the Pacific Northwest Railroad Archive can make no warrant as to their copyright and should the user choose to publish, copy or display these images in excess of "fair use" as defined by the Copyright Law of the United States, the user is responsible for compliance with copyright. In addition, any public display or publication of these photos must give attribution to the Pacific Northwest Railroad Archive under/in/or next to each image published or displayed.

Copyright and Permissions
The nature of historical archival collections means that original copyright or other information about restrictions may be difficult or even impossible to determine. Whenever possible, the Pacific Northwest Railroad Archive will provide information about copyright owners.

One mission of the Pacific Northwest Railroad Archive is to offer broad public access to its collections as a contribution to education and scholarship. Some materials in the collections may be protected by the U.S. Copyright Law (Title 17, U.S.C.)

The reproduction of materials may be restricted by terms of deeds of gift, donor restrictions, privacy and publicity rights, licensing and trademarks and the Collection Management Policy of the Pacific Northwest Railroad Archive.

Transmission or reproduction of protected items beyond that allowed by “fair use” of the U. S. Copyright Law, requires the written permission of the copyright owners.

It is the users obligation to determine and satisfy copyright or other use restrictions when publishing or otherwise distributing materials found in this collection.

It is requested that when publishing or displaying material from the collection of the Pacific Northwest Railroad Archive that appropriate credit be given to the Archive.

The Pacific Northwest Railroad Archive is eager to hear from any copyright owners who are not properly identified so that appropriate information may be provided in the future.
